At this ceremony, Michael said: ”When I was a little boy and growing up in Indiana, if someone had told me that one day I would receive the ”Millennium Artist“ award, I would never have believed it.“

On September 8, 2002, Michael Jackson delivered his message of condolence to the people of that country on an audio tape, because of the devastating flood that had afflicted the people of Germany.
Michael's message was as follows:
”To the people of Germany,
I offer you my deepest concerns, my heartfelt and sincere condolences. You are not alone. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Remember that God is with you and believe in the truth that this too will pass. All my love and thoughts are for you. I love you forever. Thank you.“
Michael invited a German family, along with their four children, to Las Vegas so they could spend the weekend with him. This family was one of many families who had lost their entire lives due to the flood.
In addition, he personally auctioned off items to help the victims of this incident in Las Vegas.
