About eMJey
eMJey.com is a fan website dedicated to Michael Jackson. It was founded on Michael’s birthday, 29 August 2003, and began its work the following morning.
It started as a Persian-language site. In our 10th-anniversary history (August 2013) we described it as the first specialized Persian website in the history of Iran’s internet dedicated to supporting an artist. BBC Persian Radio announced the launch the day after.
How it began
eMJey.com was formed by combining a Persian blog and a Persian website about Michael Jackson, which had been among the first online sources about Michael in Persian for two years before the launch. The site is made by its fan members, who over the years have worked as translators, reporters, programmers, designers and radio presenters.
What we aim to do
We try to give our readers the smallest and biggest details and news about Michael Jackson with the greatest accuracy and honesty, to build a home for his fans (it began with Persian-speaking fans), and, together with you, to protect his legacy and keep his memory alive.
From our 10th-anniversary history (August 2013)
- In 2004 the Jacksons cartoon was downloaded from the site more than 7 gigabytes in under 4 hours, even on the dial-up internet of the time, and the site crashed.
- On 25 June 2009, days after Michael’s passing, the site had close to 80,000 visitors.
- By 2013 the Persian news section held nearly 4,500 news titles.
- The site published what it describes as the most complete biography of Michael Jackson translated into Persian, together with translated interviews.
- Fan projects included a memorial magazine for the first anniversary of his passing, a memorial video for the second (we informed Michael’s foundation, which thanked us for sharing it), a Persian translation of “Dancing the Dream”, Persian and English interview materials, and the first Michael Jackson film dubbed into Persian, “Ghosts”, released on 29 August 2013.
- Meetings: a private meeting with Michael’s friend and hairstylist Karen Faye (27 November 2004) and a meeting with Michael Jackson (4 April 2005), where messages from Persian-speaking fans were delivered to him. Karen Faye wrote at the time on MJJSource, then Michael’s official website, that she had delivered a package of letters and handmade items from Iran, that Michael read them and enjoyed them, and that he asked her to thank everyone.
- During the 2005 trial, MJJSource gave a confirmation seal to websites that defended and supported Michael; eMJey.com received it.
- BBC Persian linked to eMJey in several news reports, members were interviewed in the media, articles from the site were used in the Persian Wikipedia article on Michael Jackson, and the site has been a source for many blogs, websites and Facebook pages.
