Billboard: Michael Jackson's Top Fifty Best-Selling Songs
Billboard, in honor of the King of Pop's birthday, published an article introducing Michael Jackson's top fifty best-selling songs and wrote:
"Over a career that spanned nearly fifty years of his life, Michael Jackson became a cornerstone of the Billboard charts. His dominance over the Hot 100 placed his name in the Guinness World Records. As a solo artist, 13 of his songs reached number one — the highest number among male artists. Add to that 5 more songs with the Jackson 5."
Billboard explained that Michael Jackson's top fifty singles are ranked based on their performance on the Hot 100 chart. The songs are compiled based on the number of weeks they spent at the top of the charts. The Nielsen SoundScan sales tracking system began in 1991, while many of Michael's songs were released before that time, meaning Billboard does not reflect an accurate picture of their early sales figures.
