Queen’s Most Successful Song Was Released Thanks to Michael Jackson
Roger Taylor, a member of the rock band Queen, said that Michael Jackson was responsible for the success of one of the band’s best works, because it was Michael who insisted the group release it as a single.
Taylor and his bandmates had no hope for the success of Another One Bites The Dust and didn’t want to release it, but Michael Jackson made them change their minds. The song was released in August 1980, and it celebrated a huge success around the world. The track, which topped the Billboard charts at number one, is Queen’s most successful single to date.
After watching the band’s concert in Los Angeles, Michael told Freddie Mercury that Another One Bites The Dust should be released.
Taylor said: "At that time, one of the songs from The Game album had become number one, and another one was also doing really well. I remember Michael telling us, ‘You guys are really stupid if you don’t release this!’ I told him, ‘There’s no way it won’t have buyers!’ People make all kinds of mistakes!"
Brian May, another member of the band, says that it was their Black fans who made this song number one: "Apparently, all those DJs who were playing this song for other people thought we were a Black band. They assumed the person was Black."
