Christina Applegate: I Understand Why Michael Jackson Covered His Children’s Faces
Christina Applegate, a 40-year-old American actress and an Emmy Award winner, criticized paparazzi photos of celebrities’ children. She recently wrote on Twitter that her daily routine with her one-year-old daughter has turned into a terrifying nightmare because of the photographers’ constant presence.
"I want my daughter to have a normal life and feel free. Paparazzi, don’t take pictures of her anymore! Enough! It’s in moments like these that I understand why Michael Jackson covered his children’s faces. They could have stayed anonymous until they decided otherwise. We need a law against paparazzi. Photographing children is disgusting. It drives me crazy. Imagine you’re at the park with your child and you’re having a good time, and suddenly you’re surrounded and the kids are scared." She also said: "When I became an actress, there were no paparazzi. Everyone’s advantage depends on their job, not on the clothes they wear." Applegate believes that today’s actors use their appearance to reach what they can’t achieve through talent.
She is just one of countless stars who are fed up with the occasional harassment from street photographers. Halle Berry has a similar opinion about photographing her four-year-old daughter, and she says they plan to propose a ban on paparazzi activity to the legislature.
"Our children shouldn’t be restricted. God doesn’t like it when these innocent children are exploited by photographers. They can take pictures of me, but not my daughter. That’s wrong—wrong, wrong, wrong..." She said she has been thinking about traveling to France to escape the paparazzi.
Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, is one of the paparazzi’s favorite children, but she doesn’t like these annoying photographers and shows her disapproval freely through her behavior.
The paparazzi’s activity even tires people like Justin Timberlake. They took revenge for their failure to get a photo of Timberlake and instead vented on their friend’s car, damaging it. Miley Cyrus has also threatened to leave the star-filled city of Los Angeles if the paparazzi continue.
Michael Jackson’s children are also among those being chased by these photographers, and after Michael’s death, countless photos of them were shared on the internet.
