This Is One Hardcore Michael Jackson Fan
Brian Lee, 35, from Okeham in England, is a die-hard Michael Jackson fan. He has turned a room into a collection of his photos and hopes to set a Guinness World Records record for having the largest collection of Michael’s works and memorabilia.
He says he has been a fan since he was 3 years old, and Michael has had a profound impact on his life.
When I was a kid, my father listened to the Jacksons’ songs, and whenever I heard their voices, I would start jumping around and dancing.
Those childhood jumping and dancing turned him into an imitator of Michael Jackson as an adult. He spends a few hours a day practicing Michael’s dance. He used to dance for his classmates back in elementary school. Brian says Michael Jackson is his life.
The day Michael died, everyone on this street heard my screaming. It was the worst day of my life.
He has turned his garage into a shrine for Michael Jackson. The walls are covered with 1,600 pieces of photos of Michael and the project cost 600 pounds.
He has stored his Michael books, CDs, DVDs, calendars, and other Michael knickknacks in this room. Every day he sits there, listens to his music, and watches his videos. He says he bought each Michael item in 10 copies.
He has also filmed his dancing and uploaded it to his YouTube channel. Making a DVD of his dance took 16 months because he wasn’t feeling well a bit, and for that reason he was removed from his work—but he says he gets his energy from Michael. Still, after the heavy work, he needs to rest for a week.
Brian has sent his dance DVD—he says he did everything on his own—to all the friends of his MJ love around the world, and they enjoyed watching it.
He says he has come this far thanks to the support he received from his friends, and he calls them his family—a family as big as the world.
If I’m sad or upset, they talk to me and I feel better. We talk together about Michael Jackson and the value he has for us.
His favorite song is “Billie Jean” because it was the first song whose live performance by Michael he watched when he was 7 years old. He has lost count of how many Michael Jackson concerts he has attended.
His favorite song to perform is “Jam.”
He is still working on his Michael collection and adding more items to it.
Next year I want to start collecting exact copies of his outfits and build a museum with them.
To register his name in Guinness World Records as the biggest Michael collector, he needs 5 witnesses. He has already obtained the votes of two of them.
His 64-year-old father, Josh, also supports him. Josh is also a collector and has stored more than 300 different guitars, even though he doesn’t know how to play.
Josh says: I’m a Santana fan myself, so I understand the feeling my son has about Michael Jackson.
When we were both 21, we went together to see Michael’s performance in Paris. I love the room he built. I would never let him do anything other than that with the room.
