Dutch Michael Jackson Fans Beside the History Statue

On Saturday, Michael Jackson fans went to Neverland to honor his memory; some laid flowers on the ground beside his star in Hollywood. But Dutch fans chose a different place to pay tribute to him—McDonald’s parking lot!

Outside Amsterdam, on the way toward Eindhoven, in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant, there is an almost 10-meter statue. This statue is one of nine statues that were made to promote Michael Jackson’s album History in 1995 and were installed in different cities. It’s unclear what happened to the other eight statues, but this one seems to have found its place. The restaurant owners—who must be devoted fans—bought the statue and installed it.

Over the past weekend and the beginning of this week, fans from different cities in the Netherlands came to this area with flowers and various gifts. A plane with a memorial placard was supposed to fly over the statue on Sunday, but it couldn’t happen due to bad weather. However, if conditions are favorable, this plane will do its job on August 29—Michael’s birthday.
