Michael Jackson’s Brothers Interviewed by Oprah Winfrey
Tito and Jackie, Michael’s older brothers, attended the premiere of the film This Is It, which took place on October 27 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The next day, they appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about their experience of watching the film.
Oprah said on the show: "Watching this great artist while he’s working creates in you the desire to become better at your own work. You want to find that kind of precision in the details of what you do. You want that kind of perfection. That’s what a real artist is." Jackie said: "Seeing him on stage doing his work is incredible. He’s a great showman. There are bitter and sweet moments in the film, and watching him is extremely, extremely emotional for me. Because this immense loss is not only for the family, but for the whole world. Michael was a legendary man, and I miss him terribly."
Jackie said that the film portrays Michael’s will, passion, and love as his legacy.
"This film shows people what a great showman and outstanding singer Michael was, and they’ll have the chance to see his best work. Let’s not forget that Michael was a great human being. He worked for world peace. He was an amazing father. He gave a lot to many charities around the world. He was truly unique."
Tito, who had left the cinema before seeing the film, says:
"I walked up to the front entrance doors, but I couldn’t go in. It was too soon for me. For some other family members too—like my mother and my sisters, Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya—and my brother Randy—it was also hard. It was too soon for them as well."
Tito says he’s gradually coming to terms with Michael’s death.
"When you wake up in the morning, it’s the first thing you remember. When you go to sleep at night, it’s the last thought that passes through your mind. I look at the stars in the sky and talk to my brother. This immense loss is for the family, and I really can’t come to terms with it this soon."
But Tito says he wants to watch the film soon so he can understand its love and joy. Three family members who have said they’re ready to see the film are Michael’s children, and according to Tito, they were supposed to watch the film during a home viewing.
Oprah said that fans will see a genius in this film. She also said that Michael is at the peak of his abilities in this film.
Jackie, while confirming Oprah’s comments, added: "Michael gives 200% of himself, and he’s a genius in his work."
Tito added that now everyone can see Michael’s best work and also realize the truth that he was a great human being and an amazing father."
