Quincy Jones: We saw Michael’s true nature

In an interview with CNN, Quincy Jones, the producer of the Thriller album, talked about his collaborations with Michael:

CNN: You’re definitely known more for producing Michael’s albums. How did your collaboration come about?

Quincy: When I was a musical director, we were working together on a film project. He asked me to find a producer for his first solo album (Off The Wall). While working, he was incredible and amazing. He learned the parts and roles of the other people too, and remembered them... the dialogues, the singing, the dance moves... And I saw something in him that had never been shown before.

At that time, we saw Michael’s true nature, and it was an amazing experience.

CNN: Tell us about the song We are the World, which was produced in 1985 to raise funds for the victims of the Ethiopian famine.

Quincy: Lionel Richie (who wrote the lyrics for this song with Michael) called me and asked me to take part in a project whose goal was to help Africa. I think they wanted someone who was crazy enough to agree to work with so many different people. Everyone came together to record this song, including Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Dan Aykroyd, and Bob Geldof.
