Where did Michael learn his dance moves (including walking backward or the Moonwalk)?

Michael himself said that he was inspired to create the Moonwalk by Black children in the Black neighborhood of the city. "They have a natural talent for dancing. They invented these dances. I just improved a little on these moves." It’s good to know that Michael was never trained in academic dance instruction. He designed most of the dance moves in his videos himself, or had a hand in them.
