Thomas Mesereau appears on the Jay Leno TV comedy show

June

Jay Leno, in his Friday night show with a comedic gesture and raising his right hand the way he did when testifying in court, welcomed Thomas Mesereau, Michael Jackson’s senior attorney.

For more than three months, Jay Leno had been entertaining people on his show with jokes about Michael Jackson’s court sessions and about himself. He was also called by the defense team to the witness stand to testify that in 2000 he had received suspicious phone calls from the accuser. He said he had thought the accuser might be reading his messages from a script.

This comedian was completely serious throughout his conversation with Thomas Mesereau. Thomas, too, managed to put only one small smile on his face during the entire show. He called Michael “a misunderstood musician who could never hurt a child or imprison a family in Neverland.”

“Michael is an artist. He has a creative spirit. He likes to sit inside the trunk of a tree and make music.”

Mesereau attacked Tom Sneddon by saying that “the prosecutor has hatred toward Michael and had described this case as bad from day one.” He said that since the previous case was closed in 1993, the prosecutor had been looking for an accuser to bring charges against Michael.

“It was like they were openly looking for an actor to accuse Michael. This family was the best cast they could find—whose statements from A to Z were completely discredited.”

Regarding Michael’s settlement in the 1993 allegations case, which led to the payment of $20 million by him to the accuser’s family, Mesereau said, “That amount of money was completely insignificant compared to the income Michael had at the time.” But at the same time, he said that paying that money was a mistake.

“He used the money he had. After that settlement, others thought they could force Michael to pay them money every day. (referring to the new accusers).”

Mesereau described the jurors as “people with strong will, independent minds, and open minds.”

“We had very respectable and courageous people on the jury, and they made the right decision.”

Jay Leno asked Mesereau why Michael, despite having many employees, had been taken to the hospital several times during the court sessions:

“Someone holds an umbrella for him. He has a magician. So why didn’t they hire a doctor too?”

Mesereau replied that he didn’t know the reason, but added that Michael’s back pain caused by nervous pressure was a serious issue.

“Michael wasn’t emotionally built for such processes. He sat in court for months and listened to nonsense that was said about him.”
