Michael pays the cost of hiring a lawyer against himself
On Monday of this week, the judge ordered Michael to pay $175,000 to cover the costs of the law firm Ayscough & Marar. As a result, Michael now owes the firm more than $430,000.
The $175,000 fine actually covers the amount the firm spent on hiring a lawyer to sue Michael. In its lawsuit, the firm had requested about $450,000.
The owners of this firm, who—under a contract with Michael—were responsible for preventing the disclosure of confidential court information from his 2005 case to the media, claim that Michael has not paid their fees.
Thomas Mendl, Michael’s lawyer regarding this ruling, expressed satisfaction, but did not say anything about his client’s decision to pay or not pay his debts.
Last year, Michael claimed that one of the lawyers from this firm had threatened him with disclosure of this confidential information. Because of that, Michael sued the firm and did not pay his debt to them. However, the judge ruled that Michael’s lawsuit lacked merit.
This law firm had also worked in support of Michael during the lawsuit filed by Mark Schaffel against the King of Pop.
