Beautiful new photos of the King of Pop in Ebony magazine
To mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of “Thriller,” the best-selling album in music history, Ebony magazine has dedicated its December issue cover and spread to beautiful new photos of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop and creator of this timeless musical work—who forever changed the face of modern music and the music video.
According to what was published in the page Six special section of the New York Post, the photoshoot was carried out on October 31 at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The magazine is scheduled to be released on November 12. In interviews with the New York Post, the magazine’s staff described Michael as “attractive and lovable,” and said that Michael had also asked polite questions about how they spend their lives. One of them says: “He talked nonstop about the kids and said how much he loves them.”
After the photoshoot ended, Michael also took photos with the magazine’s staff.
In a photo report, Ebony has provided a description of Michael’s presence at the photoshoot for this magazine, which is definitely worth reading:
“Michael Jackson is as special and unique as he is inventive and creative, and as precise and meticulous as he is kind and full of affection. With these qualities, he created photoshoot scenes that were full of enthusiasm and activity—very energetic and in a style all his own.
In a photo at the end of this page, our designer, Philip Blach, shows Michael the expressions he has in mind for the shoot. Michael and his general manager, Raymone Bain, look at images of Michael that had previously been printed on the cover of an Ebony issue. Our photographer, Matthew Rolston, makes the most of this incredible opportunity.
Everyone clearly remembers their first encounter with Michael Jackson. When I was studying in elementary school, I fell in love with his music, and at that time the song “ABC” had just begun to take over the radio waves. The sound of that extraordinary music made this moment seem even bigger to me. “ABC” was the attraction between me and the first boy who asked me to dance. More than 30 years passed in a flash, and at the photoshoot for our December issue, I fell in love with this artist, his creativity, and his presence all over again. I’m not the only one. Everyone on our team enjoyed spending time with this inspiring music icon—someone who turned out to be one of the most honest and generous famous people anyone has ever known, and unfortunately only a few people have had the chance to experience him.
For Ebony, Michael Jackson opened up a sincere view into his creative world. The setting and timing were perfect. MJ wanted to be in a museum. The Brooklyn Museum became a red carpet. What a team we had! In addition to our internationally renowned photographer, Matthew Rolston—who had previously, on many occasions, made MJ and his family the subject of his photos—our special designer for celebrities, Philip Blach, prepared outfits worthy of the King of Pop. Rodin’s sculpture, portraits of celebrities, and marble columns provided the perfect backdrop for him to work his magic.
With every camera flash, this dance master displayed effortless yet skillful moves—wrist movement, lifting a foot, and a fixed, intense stare. This year, the artist is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of his smash album, “Thriller,” which has sold more than 104 copies worldwide to date. MJ is back! It’s as if he has come to once again overshadow everything.”
