American director Spike Lee will bring a new documentary about Michael Jackson to the screen at the Sundance Film Festival, which is set to take place next month in Utah, United States.
The film takes a look at Michael Jackson's Off the Wall album, released in 1979. It is titled "Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall."
The film's description states that this album, as Michael Jackson's first successful solo venture, transformed him from a child star into the King of Pop. Rare archival footage has been unearthed for the film, and alongside interviews with those who collaborated with Michael during that era or whose lives were touched by the album's success and legacy, it promises to tell an extraordinary story.
Spike Lee was a friend of Michael's for two decades and collaborated with him on several projects. He first directed the "They Don't Care About Us" music video for Michael in 1996, and in 2012, to mark the 25th anniversary of the BAD album, he released the acclaimed documentary Bad 25.
Sundance programming director Trevor Groth has said of the film:
"This film focuses on his drive and dedication to his craft — on his work ethic and hard work — not just his genius. I think it will be amazing for fans and very interesting for everyone else."
