Fortune has published an article examining why Michael Jackson surpasses Adele, the British female singer.

The young British singer Adele, with the phenomenal success of her latest album titled 25, achieved sales of 5 million copies in a short time, breaking records of recent years and leaving artists of the same generation far behind.
In the meantime, some media outlets reported that Adele was the first artist to achieve 1 million in sales in a single week, and began comparing Adele to the King of Pop. But Adele is not the first artist to reach that weekly sales milestone. At precisely the same moment, the Recording Industry Association of America's announcement about Thriller's record-breaking certification put things in perspective.
