Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury Collaboration Song to Be Released
The wait for the release of a Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury collaboration is finally coming to an end.
One of the three collaborative songs by Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury will be included in a new album of Freddie's unreleased material titled Forever, to be released on November 10 of this year. The song is called "There Must Be More To Life Than This" and has been remastered by William Orbit for inclusion in the new album.
Orbit has said of working with Michael's voice on the song: "When I heard Michael's voice, it was as if he was present in the studio and singing. Hearing his voice was moving, fascinating, and heartbreaking."
This beautiful song with social themes was written and recorded by Freddie Mercury in 1981 but was never finalized. In 1983, Freddie visited Michael Jackson at his home in Los Angeles to work on some songs. It was there that the collaboration between Michael and the Queen lead singer took shape. Queen recorded Michael's voice, but even then the collaboration between the two legends was not completed, and this beautiful and meaningful song remained in Mercury's vault, out of reach. Freddie worked on the song again in 1984, but apparently it was not destined for release. The following year, a version of the song sung solely by Freddie was released on the album Mr. Bad Guy.
The full vocal version of "There Must Be More To Life Than This" — featuring Michael's voice with Freddie Mercury's piano — ultimately leaked online in 2002.
In 2012, the song was used in the BBC documentary about Freddie Mercury titled The Great Pretender.
The version on the new album features the vocals of both singers — the first verse sung by Freddie and the second by Michael. This version of the song was premiered for the first time yesterday morning on BBC Radio 2's morning show.

In addition to this song, two other collaborative tracks between Michael and Freddie exist. "State of Shock" is one of them — written by Michael, and recorded by Michael and Freddie in 1981. This song also leaked online in 2002. A version featuring Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones, was released in 1984 on The Jacksons' Victory album, and again in 2004 on the album The Ultimate Collection. The third Michael and Freddie collaboration, "Victory," was written by the two of them in 1983. It was left off The Jacksons' Victory album and was never released. This song has never leaked and has never been heard.
