Lady Gaga: When I'm Sad, I Wear Michael Jackson's Clothes
On Monday, the Ellen DeGeneres Show aired in America with Lady Gaga as a guest. During part of the program, Gaga spoke about Michael Jackson.
Lady Gaga had previously purchased pieces of Michael's costumes at auction. In her conversation with Ellen, she said:
"I heard that his tour costumes had been put up for auction. Tour costumes are my most prized possessions because I wear them on stage every night alongside my fans, and I think he felt the same way about his. So I really wanted to preserve them for him, because the thought of a bunch of wealthy strangers each owning a piece of them was driving me crazy. Where would these clothes end up? So I thought, if I bought them all, I could keep them somewhere safe."
But would Gaga ever wear any of these costumes herself?
"No, I would never do that. A few of the pieces, like spirits, seemed to speak to me and say it would be okay if I wore them, but I would never put on any of the costumes that his fans would recognize. Among them there was a tank top with 'MJ' written on it and a leather jacket with 'Stop the Dirty Tabloids' written on the back."
Gaga had previously said that while recording her new album, she wore Michael's tank top in the studio.
"I don't go out in these clothes, but when I'm in the studio or feeling down, I put them on, because I think he would be okay with it — though I'm still not sure. But I take care of these clothes. And to Michael Jackson's fans watching the show: they are as pristine and perfect as the day they were made."
