Quincy Jones Sues the Michael Jackson Estate
Quincy Jones, the producer of Michael Jackson's Thriller album, has claimed that the King of Pop's Estate has not paid him what he is owed.
Jones says his royalties from the sale of recordings have not been paid, and that his name as producer of certain musical pieces was not credited in the film This Is It. In his lawsuit, Jones claims the Michael Jackson Estate re-worked songs he produced for the Bad, Thriller, and Off the Wall albums and used them in new projects such as Cirque du Soleil without paying him royalties. Jones has asked the court to order full payment of his damages.
The Estate's attorney says they believe no default has occurred in payments to Jones:
"The Michael Jackson Estate is saddened to hear that Quincy Jones has filed a lawsuit against it. To the best of the Estate's knowledge, payments to Mr. Jones have been properly made throughout approximately 35 years of collaboration with Michael."
