Is a second trial for AEG on the way?

Two weeks ago, Katherine Jackson met with members of the AEG jury one day after the jury’s verdict was announced. It was reported that after this meeting, her spirits lifted, because she learned that the twelve jurors—after five months of trial and hearing both the good and bad about her son—described him as a good man and an excellent father. They also know that he played a role in countless charitable and humanitarian activities.

Katherine also attended a discussion session between the judge and the lawyers with the jury members, held after the verdict was announced. During that meeting, it was stated that the jurors felt good about Michael Jackson and that they liked him. One of the questions asked of the jurors was: “What is your impression of Michael?” They said that after hearing that he was a good father and a kind, charitable man, they felt much better about him. They know that Michael faced problems, but they also know that he truly did his best to improve the situation.

Outside the courtroom, reporters asked the first juror: “Were you a supporter of Michael Jackson? Are you?”

He replied: “At the beginning of the trial, no. Of course I knew him. I listened to his music. I thought he was a good singer. But I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t go to any of his concerts. Probably if he had walked past across the street, I wouldn’t have changed my route to see him. But now that the trial is over, I have to say that I’ve become a fan. Because we heard many things about him. I believe he was a humanitarian. He cared about people, he cared about the earth. All of these documents were presented to us in court. I believe he was an amazing person. I don’t want to express my unqualified opinions, but he also had problems. Many people around the world get caught up in problems. That doesn’t make them bad people. I truly believe that in his heart he wanted good for the people around him, but he ran into trouble with substances—better said, with painkillers. He never used narcotics. Another issue was his expenses and costs. A lot of people focus on the drugs, but he probably wouldn’t have decided to hold another tour if he hadn’t had financial problems. Now I’m a Michael Jackson fan. I watched his videos in court, and I’m saying: I wish I had attended his concerts.”

Two days after the verdict was announced, Brian Panish, Katherine’s lawyer, said that his client would not give up. After meeting with the jury members, Katherine told him that she agreed with his view regarding the appeal request.

Panish also said that the day before, he had spoken with Prince, Michael’s sixteen-year-old son. According to Panish, Prince was pleased that the jury determined that the killer of his father had been hired by AEG, but like many others, upon hearing their opinion about Dr. Murray, he was deeply shocked and confused.

Panish arranged exclusive interviews with each and every jury member and met with the appeals court lawyers in order to make a decision about the appeal request within the next thirty days.

Panish believed that: “We can’t surrender. Today is a new day.”

On the other hand, Marvin Putnam, the lawyer for the company, had expressed hope that Katherine Jackson would stop the fight and not take the case to the appeals court.

Putnam: “Michael Jackson’s children have been through a lot of hardships. For their sake, I hope the appeals court won’t be involved.”

Putnam also said that: “AEG loved Michael and cared about him.”

But the court heard evidence that AEG employees insulted Michael, slapped him, and ignored countless warnings about his physical and mental problems.

Now it seems that Putnam’s wish apparently will not come true, because Roger Friedman has recently reported that not only is the Jackson family appealing the verdict issued by the AEG trial jury, but they are also seeking to have a new court convened. If what he says is true, the second AEG trial will be held, and all—or most—of the witnesses will once again take the stand.

The law firm of Brian Panish is skilled in filing for reconsideration and bringing cases to the appeals court. The lawyers believe that the questions posed to the jury members misled them and caused the wrong verdict to be reached. They want to make up for the mistake of the previous court in a new trial.

The jury’s not-guilty verdict for AEG has angered many fans. Of course, they are even more disappointed that the jury issued a verdict of merit for Dr. Conrad Murray.

On the day the verdict was announced, one fan stood behind a photo of Michael in front of the jury, answering questions from reporters.

On that same day, a 42-year-old fan told reporters: “My heart is broken. He was our greatest artist, and they treated him like this. Evidence and proof were shown before our eyes.”
