Justin Timberlake Receives the Special Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award
Last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, Justin Timberlake received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award from the hands of Jimmy Fallon.
In 1991, the MTV Video Vanguard Award was renamed the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award" in honor of the King of Pop.
The former NSYNC member joined his former bandmates on stage for the first time in years to perform "Girlfriend" and "Bye Bye Bye."
NSYNC was a five-member boy band that included Timberlake and was active from 1995 to 2002.
After his performance, Timberlake received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in recognition of his achievements in music and said: "I don't deserve this, but I'm not giving it back. I'm taking this home."
He then dedicated the award to his four NSYNC bandmates, saying he owed it to them: "I won half the MTV awards with these four men. We can keep it at my house, but I want to share it with all of them. This is an honor for me. Thank you so much."
Roger Friedman wrote of Timberlake: "His songs aren't always great, his music won't stand the test of time, but he is a remarkable performer."
