City of Gary Celebrates Michael Jackson's Birthday

As has become the tradition over these past four years, the city of Gary is again celebrating the birthday of its most famous son, Michael Jackson.

This year's celebration spans three days, beginning at 3:30 PM local time today. Fans will gather around the old Jackson family home at 2300 Jackson Street to enjoy a concert featuring the King of Pop's songs. The festivities will continue through Saturday. Food and drinks will also be provided.

This year's celebration was organized by Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother.

Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said: "We are honored that Mrs. Jackson has arranged such a celebration to commemorate our city's most famous son. Fans from near and far are invited to come and have a wonderful time. This is the best way to spend a long holiday weekend."

It has been said that on Friday a commemorative award will be presented to Katherine Jackson by Roosevelt High School. It is not yet known whether Katherine and Michael's children will attend the celebration.
