Sunflowers From Iran’s Fans and the Iranian Flag at Michael Jackson’s Grave

On the anniversary of Michael’s death, we said to ourselves that if we couldn’t send a bouquet to Michael’s grave, maybe his image could find its way there. As it turns out, our wish came true. One of the most important and active online Michael Jackson fan communities—one that plays a prominent role in information-sharing and covers fan activities around the world—made a printed copy of the sunflower image we arranged on Facebook, and yesterday they took it to Michael’s grave along with them. They told us that although they did this without our knowledge and didn’t know whether they had permission or not, they decided to also include the children of Iran in the fourth memorial of Michael. The image you see above was taken by the administrator of this online community from the grounds of Michael’s grave, and as you can see, our sunflower is clearly visible on the right side of the picture. We had sent this image to the administrator, but we weren’t sure it would make it to Forest Lawn. This dear friend announced that they would also be at the grave on Michael’s birthday, and suggested that if we have any message or photo for Michael, they could print them onto cardboard or larger sheets and take them to the grave. Sometimes letters and gifts that fans place at the grave grounds are taken into the grave and left in the crypt next to Michael’s tomb. We accepted this friend’s suggestion with great joy, and with pride we told them that there are many fans who want to deliver their messages—and also many artists who have created creative artworks of Michael and want their work to be seen. We had previously shown your messages and artworks to our audience through several projects, and we even delivered your messages to Michael at a time when he needed them more than ever—during the 2005 trial.
