Thrill The World 2012

(26-8-2012) Thrill the World, the annual worldwide participatory zombie dance event set to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” will take place at Occidental Park in Seattle (USA) on October 27, 2012. Rehearsals will resume August 26, 2012 and will continue on September 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, with dress rehearsal on October 20. Rehearsals take place at Artspace Hiawatha Lofts, 843 Hiawatha Place S., Seattle.

Rehearsals and participation in the event are free, but donations are encouraged. This year’s donations benefit “The Lighthouse For The Blind.” The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. helps create and enhance opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency of people who are blind, deaf-blind, and blind with other disabilities. It was founded in 1918 as a social enterprise nonprofit organization and now employs over 240 individuals who are blind or have a visual disability. Employment is made possible through adaptive technology, braille, and special support to make jobs accessible.

Thrill The World is the annual global attempt to break the world record for the largest simultaneous Thriller dance while raising money for charities. October 2012 will mark the 29th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller video. The Seattle Thrillers will join Thriller groups all over the world at the same time to perform on October 27th at 12:00 pm.

This year, “Thrill the World” — the global simultaneous “Thriller” dance — takes place on Saturday 27th October at 7pm GMT /UTC- Precisely! The London “Thrill” takes place in Covent Garden.

The London Zombies are launching an awareness campaign to highlight climate change, and a fundraising drive to get their first zombie to Thrill in Antarctica and raise funds for the SOS Children’s Villages. The SOS are also pioneering sustainable programs in their villages such as solar energy initiatives and encouraging children to grow and eat more fruit and vegetables for nutritional and environmental health. “Thrill The World” members are involved with many charities around the world including work in areas where deforestation is causing problems.

We should be able to do simple things like planting trees and eating more fruit and vegetables, which will offset and reduce our carbon footprint to lower the stress we cause to the environment. The United Nations concludes that the livestock industry is the number one cause of global warming and is responsible for 18% of total greenhouse gas emissions, more than all transportation in the world combined.

“The Thrill The World Project” has now collectively raised over $250,000 for over 500 charities across the globe, mostly in Africa and South America. So don’t miss the “Thrill The World” London event in Covent Garden, which will have an Ice and Snow theme to publicize the Antarctica expedition.

There’s also live performance by Reggae artist Clinark who will be premiering the video for his version of Michael’s hit song “They Don’t Care About Us” at the event. There will also be a Dance Battle; and a “Thriller” express boot camp dance class on the day, that guarantees to get any laggard zombies ready and able to “Thrill” with the rest of the world, who will all be dancing simultaneously.

Thrill The World “Santa Barbara!”by lyn

Zombies “Thrilled The World” today, performing Michael’s “Thriller” dance in the sunken garden at the Santa Barbara court House, watched by a large crowd.

The event was filmed by Larry Nimmer, who gave evidence for the Defense at Michael’s trial. In addition, he filmed the raid by more than 70 officers on Michael’s Neverland Ranch. He was also involved in the making of a rebuttal video with the outtakes from the infamous Bashir documentary, the evidence given to the officers by Gavin Arvizo, his mother, Thomas Mesereau and the jury foreman.

Fire-eaters and a team of twenty dancers from Revue Studios performed the famous 1983 “Thriller” routine, while radio stations Swansea Sound and The Wave were on hand to join the fun. Everybody involved was totally committed to the performance.

Revue Studios choreographer Jessica Phillips said,“It was fantastic. It was absolutely out of this world. Everybody really embraced it and got into the spirit of what we were doing and gave us so much support. We had the first performance earlier on in the night and it really went well and by the time the second one came around there was an unbelievable crowd there watching.”

Speaking before the performance, dancer Sophie Burgess, 19, of Pontarddulais, who was chosen to be part of the Revue Studios troupe after auditions, said,

“It is such a different experience from what we’ve done before. It is an exciting opportunity and “Thriller” is such a crowd-pleaser so it will be good to see people join in.”

Lexington’s Thriller!by lyn

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch the 11th annual re-enactment of Michael’s “Thriller,” in Lexington last Sunday night.

1,200 zombies took part in the dance this year, 400 more than last year. “Every year, more people want to do it,” TeresaTomb said. “Every year, they make more zombies. We just can’t kill it.” There were several events before the main performance, including more than a dozen children doing the “Thriller” routine.
