Latoya Jackson Explains Why Michael Named Prince and Paris
Why did Michael choose the names Prince and Paris for his children?
“Prince” is undoubtedly a popular name in the Jackson family. Michael’s maternal grandfather was also named Prince, following a long-standing family tradition. Michael’s mother ignored that tradition, but Michael named both of his sons Prince—though the official name of his first child is Michael Joseph Jr. Latoya, Michael’s 56-year-old sister, who has no children, has given the same name to her pets.
Recently, Latoya was asked what the reason is behind the Jackson family’s interest in the royal name “Prince.”
Latoya said she first gave this name to her dogs because it was her grandfather’s name. Michael also followed the same approach and named his sons Prince.
“Since I was sixteen years old, I’ve always chosen the name Prince and Paris for my dogs.”
What has been the reason for continuing this pattern?
It goes back to a promise Latoya made—along with her best friend, Kathy Hilton, and Michael—when they were children, years ago. Latoya had been friends with Kathy since she was twelve, and Kathy is Paris Hilton’s mother.
“When we were growing up, we used to tell each other that we were going to have children one day. I told them that I would name my first son Prince and my first daughter Paris. It was a promise between the three of us. When Kathy became a mother, she kept her promise. Then when Michael had a child, he did the same thing. And me—well, I don’t have kids, so I named my dogs like that.”
Earlier, Kathy Hilton had also said that choosing the name Paris for her daughter was the result of a childhood vow. Read.
