Who is TJ Jackson?
Tito Joe Jackson (TJ), born July 16, 1978, is the third son and the last child of Tito Jackson. He is Michael Jackson’s older brother.
TJ and his older brothers, Toriano Adaryll (Taj) and Taril Adren, founded the pop/R&B music group “3T” (Three T) in 1989.
The group’s first album, titled “Brotherhood,” was released in November 1995. The album was produced by Kent Cammizer and Michael Jackson, and released under his company label, MJJG Music. It sold six million copies worldwide. Five singles were released from the album, and Michael featured on two of them with the titles Why and I Need You. Michael also appeared alongside the 3T brothers in the video for Why.
The brothers dedicated their album Brotherhood to their mother, Delores “D.D.” Jackson, who had passed away the previous August. D.D., who had separated from Tito a year earlier, was murdered by a man named Donald Bohana, who had a friendship relationship with her. Bohana’s motive for the murder was to seize the money that D.D. had refused to give him. Bohana had a two-million-dollar debt.
Brotherhood placed at number 127 on the Billboard 200, but performed much better in the UK, where it reached number 11. The following year, the group held a tour in Europe with an album of the same name. The group’s second studio album, titled Identity, was released in December 2004.
3T also collaborated on the soundtracks for these films: The Jacksons: An American Dream - Free Willy - Free Willy 2 - Men in Black - Trippin.
These three brothers appeared four years ago, in 2008, at a Michael Jackson fan event in the city of Devon. During the event, they called their uncle, giving fans the chance to hear Michael’s voice. (Audio file Get Michael’s words.)
TJ’s personal life
In 1994, he began a relationship that had been going on for several years with the current face of American TV shows, Kim Kardashian. Kim was invited to Neverland with TJ, and Uncle Doo Doo (Michael’s nickname) celebrated his niece’s 14th birthday on his personal ranch. Of course, Michael was not personally present at the ceremony and he never met Kim, but Kardashian has referred to Neverland as “the most magical place on Earth.”
Kim’s Armenian-American father, O.J. Simpson’s lawyer, was O.J. Simpson’s attorney. Michael’s lawyer, Johnnie Cochran, was also one of Simpson’s lawyers. Meanwhile, Kardashian’s daughters attend the same school as Tito Jackson’s sons.
In his 1995 interview with Time magazine, TJ said that after his mother’s death, a great closeness had formed between him and Kim—so much so that Kardashian canceled all her plans to be with TJ and help him during those difficult times.
Taril, TJ’s brother, was also in a relationship for five years with Kim’s sister, Kourtney Kardashian.
In 2007, TJ married his current wife, Frances, who has three children with him. Marriage Michael was one of the absent guests at his wedding. He didn’t attend because he was worried about disrupting the order of the ceremony. One of TJ’s sons, named Royal, has a close relationship with Michael’s children and has been seen in many photos alongside Paris Jackson.
Uncle Doo Doo
TJ and his brothers could call Michael “Uncle Doo Doo.” A few years ago, in an interview with B&W magazine, they told the story of this nickname for Michael.
- Why do you call Michael “Uncle Doo Doo”?
Taril: As you know, he’s crazy (laughs). He does silly things.
Taj: This is one of the thousands of names he has given himself. We send him letters and he replies. He signs his letters “Uncle Doo Doo.”
- So there’s no special meaning behind it?
Taj: No (laughs). Sorry, I wish it had meaning.
(Of course, “doo doo” can also mean “the coolest man in the world” or someone with a hidden talent for drawing. See Michael’s paintings here.)
After Michael’s death
Right now, Taj is busy making his series of films titled “Code Z,” and Taril is working on his solo album. Taril also recorded the vocal track of Michael’s song “Hollywood Tonight,” which was released after his death on the album “Michael.” However, even though the song itself was praised, Taril’s vocal track didn’t really impress. While Taj called some songs on this album fake and got into arguments with the Michael Jackson fan community—and even confronted them—TJ has always kept himself away from the drama.
TJ and his brothers were on stage with Prince and Paris at Grammy in 2010. That night, Michael’s children received the Lifetime Achievement Award for their father.
In 2010, news broke that in the fall of the following year, the Cinderella Theatre would return to the stage in Los Angeles with the participation of TJ Jackson. This acclaimed musical is written by Larry Hart; it is the only theater that was funded and produced by Michael Jackson. In 1996, the theater was nominated for 12 NAACP awards and won eight.
Last year, on October 8, a memorial concert was held by the Jackson family for Michael in Wales. TJ, Taj, and Taril attended the concert alongside Michael’s children and other family members.
In January of this year, at the ceremony where Michael’s hand and shoe prints were made in cement at the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard by his three children, TJ Jackson and his son Royal were among the family members present.
