The XtraJet Case Is Finally Closed

The 2003 misconduct case involving the airline XtraJet was finally closed after 9 years.

The story began when, on November 17, 2003, following allegations of child abuse against Michael, more than seventy Santa Barbara police officers stormed his home in Neverland. At the time of the police raid, Michael was busy working in a studio in Las Vegas.

On the morning of November 21, Michael flew from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara with Mark Geragos—who was his lawyer before Thomas Mesereau arrived—and with Pat Harris, Geragos’s legal partner, to surrender to the police. During this flight, they were secretly filmed.

Jeffrey Borer, the owner of the jet company, was trying to sell this film—without sound—to one of the media outlets. In the same month, Geragos, Harris, and Michael filed a lawsuit against him in court.

The jet company had been dissolved long ago, and last Friday the appeals court issued a ruling in favor of Geragos and Harris. Michael had withdrawn from this lawsuit in April 2005, as he was dealing with his own criminal trial.

Borer had to pay $2.5 million in damages to Mark Geragos and Pat Harris. However, according to Borer’s lawyer, he cannot afford to pay this amount, and a decision must be made about the amount that could actually be awarded to Geragos and Harris.
