Michael Jackson’s last home is back on the market for sale
The French-style mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the upscale Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles—where Michael Jackson died—has returned to the market for sale.
Michael lived in this house with his three children from December 2008 until June 25, 2009. He died at age 50 in his bedroom at noon on June 25, 2009. The house was not owned by Michael; its monthly rent was $100,000. The house’s furnishings also did not belong to Michael; however, at last year’s auction, they were sold for $1 million. (Read more)
Mauricio Umansky, a real estate expert, has priced the mansion at $23.9 million—$400,000 more than its estimated value in the summer of last year.
Umansky, who claims he knew Michael closely and says his wife had been friends with Michael since he was 8 or 10 years old, says he is looking for a suitable buyer for the house.
"Michael Jackson was an extraordinary human being. He changed music. I think a lot of positive energy flows through this house. I’m excited to sell it."
He says the story of Michael’s death at this mansion is part of its background.
History of the French Holmby Hills mansion
The mansion was built in 2002 by Mohamed Hadid, with French architecture by the company Richard Landry, in the most affluent part of the city of Los Angeles—Holmby Hills.
In 2004, the chairman of the clothing production company Ed Hardy; Hubert Guez and his wife Roxanne bought the French mansion for $18.5 million. The value of the home reached $38 million in 2008, before the impact of the U.S. economic recession.
Three months after Michael’s death, in September 2009, it was reported that fashion designer Christian Audigier had bought the house. He planned to open the doors of the house to the public on the anniversary of Michael’s death and hold a fashion show—though that didn’t happen. (Read more)
