The Book Man in the Music Is Released

You’ve read that Joe Vogel’s book titled Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson (Man in the Music: A Look at the Creative Life and Works of Michael Jackson) will be released in November. Well, the day has arrived—today is the day. The book is also available for sale on Amazon.

To mark this occasion, Vogel wrote on his website yesterday:

“After five years of work, this book will finally be released tomorrow in bookstores around the world.

The goal of writing this book was simple: I wanted to write about Michael Jackson as an artist. When I began working on this book in 2005, all the books being written about him were, in a shallow and vulgar way, focused on discussing controversies from his personal life. That was what publishers were willing to print at the time because they thought that’s what readers wanted to read. Even Michael’s autobiography, quoted from his own words, and his poetry book went out of print and were no longer available in stores.

I remember that in 2006, Barnes & Noble had many books about Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Kurt Cobain, but the only book about Michael Jackson that stood out was Diane Diamond’s book titled ‘Be Careful Who You Love.’

I wanted to change that trend.

Michael Jackson loved reading. Throughout his life, he would go back and forth to bookstores and come home with boxes full of books. He loved studying and learning from great people he admired—people like Chaplin, Disney, and Michelangelo. He was eager to be studied in the same way by others and to have others learn from him. Michael wanted people to see him as an artist, not as a creation of tabloid newspapers and rumor-driven media.

I hope that Man in the Music fulfills Michael’s wish. He deserves it. He is one of the most prominent cultural icons and one of the rarest artistic geniuses of the past century.

We’ve seen a lot of yellow, worthless books about him that became bestsellers. So there must be enough people out there to prove that Man in the Music can also be a bestseller.”
