A Million-Pin Michael Portrait Reaches Its Final Days

Have you heard about the one-million-point portrait of Michael Jackson? After his passing, artist David Elan decided to create a memorial portrait of Michael Jackson. Elan’s method is to complete the portrait by placing tiny dots on paper. Along with Jerry Biederman, the project manager, he launched a website and asked fans from all over the world to support the portrait by joining it. For each member, one dot is added to the portrait. Yesterday, it was announced that a date has been set to complete the portrait—and what better day than Michael’s birthday on August 29 this year. That date is exactly two years after the project was opened. On August 28, 2009, the portrait was started by placing four dots for Michael and his three children. The number of participants in this initiative has not yet reached one million. David Elan will finish the portrait, but the project will remain open. Each time someone signs up on the website, they are given a number that shows which dot they are in the one-million portrait of the King of Pop.
