Jennifer Hudson on Michael Jackson

In July 2009, at the memorial for the King of Pop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, pregnant Jennifer Hudson performed Michael’s beautiful song “Will You Be There.”

The Oscar-winning singer and actress (supporting role, “Dreamgirls,” 2006) says that even though Michael is gone, she can still know him through the people around her.

When she was asked to sing at Michael’s memorial, Hudson was shocked. She had never met Michael, and she couldn’t understand why they wanted her to sing:

“Why do they want me to sing? Who am I that I should sing for him?”

After that, the music director of Michael’s concerts told Hudson that the King of Pop had liked her music.

“He told me that Michael was a big supporter and fan of mine, and he wanted me to join him for his concerts in London (TII).”

Hudson couldn’t believe what she was hearing:

“Are you serious? I didn’t think he even knew I existed.”

After talking with several of Michael’s friends in the royal family of Bahrain, Hudson learned that the King of Pop had admired her performances in the Dubai and London concerts.

“They told me stories about Michael. One of them told me that when I was nominated for an Oscar, Michael called him and shouted with joy, ‘Jennifer won the award!’ Knowing these things made me cry. I thought to myself, my God! I can know him through his family and friends who are still with us.”
