Teddy Riley on paying Michael Jackson’s vocals

Teddy Riley has been involved in all of Michael’s projects since the album Dangerous. He says the recent album is a classic—though it doesn’t reach the level of Michael’s work in the 1980s and 1990s. In an interview with Reuters, he talked about paying Michael Jackson’s vocals on the new album: “I worked on Michael’s vocals. We had to make sure his vocals matched the music. He (Michael) had never finalized his vocals. But since he’s no longer with us, he can’t give us new vocals. We used technology to align his vocals. We’re sorry we had to use this method, but in any case, these are Michael Jackson’s vocals.” Teddy Riley says that most of the criticism and doubts about the album came from people inside the family who were unhappy with this project. “This didn’t happen on its own—it came from a family member. Some people from the family couldn’t get inside the project, so they held a grudge. And a chain of events happened to reduce the album’s credibility. I’m here to prevent that from happening, because I know it’s his own voice. I know the songs are great. I know they need to be heard. I know his legacy has to continue because he’s an incredible person—and there are more songs on the way… I get involved in anything that leaves a trace of Michael.
