Jackson Crown: Apologize or I’ll Sue

Tuesday, November 9—one day after the Oprah interview with Michael’s children aired, in which they talked about their love for Michael and their good memories with him—UK’s ITV aired an interview with the former editor of The Sun, Kelvin MacKenzie (Kelvin MacKenzie), in the morning show segment "This Morning" (UK breakfast show This Morning), where many insults were made about Michael. MacKenzie is the same person who years ago coined the nickname "Wacko Jaco" (Jackson idiot) in the media. In an interview, Michael expressed his dissatisfaction with these insults, saying that the nickname came from an English satirical writer and rumor-monger (tabloid). In his interview, MacKenzie said he didn’t understand why Michael’s three children were born. He referred to Michael’s accusations and the 2005 court case (in which he was acquitted), and said that with his death, some children have now been saved from a lifetime of psychological abuse and torment. In the end, he said that now that Michael has died, his children’s situation will be better than when they were with their father. After the program aired, ITV was bombarded with public criticism. On Thursday, the UK communications regulator, ofcom, announced that it would not take action in this matter. But the video of the interview was removed from ITV’s website. Then it was that Michael’s nephew—the son of Tito and a member of the music group 3T—wrote on Twitter that he would sue ITV. He also asked his 20,000 followers to support him: "If they don’t apologize on television, my next step will be a legal lawsuit. The time for insulting and lying about my uncle is over." On Friday, ITV was overwhelmed by emails and phone calls from Michael’s fans around the world. A representative of the network said that the complaints would be handled.
