Urgent Request to Investigate Michael Jackson’s Death
Michael Jackson murder defendant Conrad Murray’s defense attorneys are calling for an urgent investigation into two syringes and one IV bag that were found at Michael’s home in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, after his death. The reason is that these pieces of evidence are rapidly deteriorating after a year has passed.
During a 40-minute private meeting with the case judge—details of which were provided on paper to the Associated Press—Murray’s lawyers said that the liquid inside one of the syringes had dried out after this time and turned into salt. Meanwhile, the quality of the substances in these syringes and the IV bag could be crucial for explaining Michael Jackson’s death and may bring significant information for both sides of the case.
According to the lawyers, last year’s inspectors found traces of propofol and lidocaine in these syringes, but they did not determine the amount.
In any case, medical examiner findings confirmed that Dr. Murray injected a lethal amount of propofol into Michael Jackson’s vein at his home, which caused his death on June 25, 2009.
Propofol is administered in hospital operating rooms, but Murray used it to put Michael Jackson—who was always awake—to sleep.
The case judge, Michael Pastor, rejected the attorneys’ request because he wants them to consult more with the prosecutors. And if next week the defense and the prosecution also request another investigation, he will issue the necessary orders.
The tests requested by Murray’s lawyers would destroy the samples and can only be carried out once.
Another lawyer for Murray said these tests should have been done immediately after Michael’s death. But the medical examiner determined that details about these syringes and the IV bag would not affect the investigation process in the case.
Murray’s defense attorney says that if the tests are carried out, the results would be available one to four months later, and therefore they would not be used at the January 4, 2011 hearing.
On that day, the prosecution will formally present its evidence against Murray, and the judge will decide whether the evidence is sufficient to announce charges against this doctor and proceed to a criminal trial.
