Judge Did Not Order Conrad Murray’s License Seized

Earlier on June 14, a hearing related to Michael Jackson’s murder case from last June was held with the participation of members of the defendant’s family and the doctor. Catherine and Joe—the mother and father of Michael—as well as his sister LaToya and his brothers Jermaine and Randy were present at the session.

On that day, Judge Michael Pastor announced that it would take a few months to suspend Conrad Murray’s medical license, and that he wanted to prioritize the murder case due to its high importance for the Jackson family, Conrad Murray, and the community. Not long ago, the California Medical Board had requested the court to suspend Conrad Murray’s medical license.

In February, the former judge had instructed Conrad Murray that he was not allowed to prescribe or inject sedative and anesthetic drugs, but had not revoked his right to practice medicine. Judge Pastor also stated that any change to the order issued by the former judge must be carried out by a judge of the Court of Appeal, and that doing so himself would be inconsistent with accepted rules.

“Sometimes the belief takes hold among people that a judge can make up the law and move the case forward. I do not have the authority to change an order given by a colleague.”

However, the judge told the prosecutor’s representative that the Medical Board could hold an administrative proceeding against Conrad Murray, and if more information was obtained, he could request a further review of the medical license suspension.
