Brett Ratner, the director of Rush Hour and one of Michael’s friends, has posted an interview he conducted with him in February 2004 on his website. In this video, Michael answers questions about his interests, music, his personal opinions, and his feelings—and in one scene he even sings along with Ratner. After Michael’s death, Brett Ratner said about him: “He was the most spiritual person I’ve ever seen in my life. One of his dreams was to heal all the sick children in the world. When I said, ‘Isn’t that impossible?’ he started crying. He was very emotional about things that affected him. I think you could say he was pure innocence in a world that wasn’t quite so innocent anymore.”

“I have hours of footage of us sitting in our pajamas, and I ask him about his favorite music as a child and the books he was reading at the time. When you were next to him, you really felt like God was with him. He was an amazing superman. But he always treated you as if you were his equal. He would become your friend, and he never asked you for anything in return for that friendship.”
