Michael Jackson’s Children Took Over the Stage
Michael’s children stole the show at Sunday night’s Grammys ceremony in Los Angeles.
Although they have spent most of their lives away from the public eye and off stage, their speech in front of a packed hall of stars showed that they were not lacking in confidence and that they are experts at handling their presence in public. While they watched the audience’s standing ovations, they spoke very well.
It was a standout moment that many expected to become one of the most lasting memories of this year’s Grammys—something that is difficult for other performers to achieve.
Michael’s children, Prince Michael and Paris, came onto the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to receive their father’s “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
They were accompanied by their three cousins—Tito Jackson’s children (Taj, T.J., and Trey)—who were visibly emotional.
The kids wore black suits. Their pants were styled like their father’s, with red stripes along the sides. The red armbands were another sign of the respect they brought for their superstar father.
Their standout speech began with Michael’s 12-year-old son, who looked noticeably more mature and composed. He thanked the fans for their support. Speaking in a manly voice, he said:
“Being here is an honor for us, and we’re receiving this award for our father, Michael Jackson. First, we want to thank God for taking care of us during these past seven months. And we also want to thank our grandma and grandpa for their love and support. We also want to thank the fans. Our father loved you so much because you were always there for him. Our father always cared about the Earth and humanity. Through all his hard work and sacrifices, he helped many charities and donated money to all of them. In all of his songs, his simple message is ‘love.’ We will continue to spread his message and help the world. Thank you. Dad, we love you.”
For a moment, due to being overwhelmed by emotion, it was difficult for Prince to speak, but he kept his composure and showed admirable dignity as he delivered his words.
Paris added calmly:
“Dad was supposed to be here. Dad was supposed to perform this year. But last year he couldn’t perform. Thank you. We love you, Dad.”
This was Paris’s second speech. Nearly eight months earlier, at her father’s memorial ceremony in the same place, she had called him the best dad in the world.
