HTW Statement on the Michael Foundation Lawsuit
Not long ago, you read in the news that the Michael Jackson Foundation had sued an organization that had taken the name of one of his songs, “Heal The World,” and claimed a connection to this legend. The organization has issued a statement in this regard:
“The lawsuit against us is not intended to protect Mr. Jackson, his assets, his legacy, and his humanitarian aspirations. No one protects themselves against a friend. We are not enemies, and the situation we find ourselves in is very upsetting. But we cannot allow the Foundation to disrupt the charitable process. The organization is committed to what it says and does regarding guarding Mr. Jackson’s humanitarian legacy. We strongly reject the accusations against us.
With deep regret. Melissa Johnson, President of the HTW organization.”
In its lawsuit, the Michael Foundation accused the organization of trying to profit financially by using Michael’s name. The Michael charity organization with the same name stopped operating in 2002. The current organization was founded in 2008 and has no connection to any member of the Jackson family. The Foundation says this organization claims a relationship with Michael and his family.
