Debate Over Naming a Metro Station After Michael
A New York lawmaker wants an underpass where Michael filmed the Bad video in 1987 to be named after him. The video was directed by Martin Scorsese.
Letitia James is a member of the New York City Council. She has suggested that a plaque be installed in this underpass in Michael’s memory—or even that Michael’s name be added to this subway station, which is located in Brooklyn, New York.
However, a spokesperson for the city transportation department, Kevin Ortiz, said today that carrying out this plan is unlikely. He said that under transportation network rules, installing plaques is prohibited. But Letitia is not giving up, and she intends to launch a call for proposals for her plan.
