A petition for the Nobel Peace Prize for Michael
On Tuesday, more than 15,000 people signed an online petition calling for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Michael Jackson. The petition praises Michael for his humanitarian activities and asks the Norwegian Nobel Foundation’s committee to name Michael Jackson as the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. The petition aims to gather one million votes for Michael. Only within one day, 15,000 people voted for it. The petition states:
“ As signatories, we believe that Michael Jackson is free from selfishness and, with lifelong effort, devoted himself to making the world a better place for children and for all humankind.”
But the sad news is that people must be nominated before their death in order to receive this prize. Therefore, Michael is not eligible to win. Moreover, only certain individuals—such as prominent university professors, members of government and parliament, previous winners of this prize, members of many international institutions, and finally members of the Nobel Committee—are able to nominate people for the prize. This year, Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy are among the 205 nominees for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The winner will be announced on October 9.
