Michael Continues to Dominate the Charts

Michael Jackson’s 2003 album Number Ones, in its 119th week on the Billboard chart, has once again taken the top spot on the comprehensive chart of top albums. This chart ranks best-selling albums regardless of how long they’ve been released. But on the top 200 best-selling albums chart, only albums whose release run does not exceed 18 weeks are included.

Since Michael’s death, Number Ones has been the best-selling album in the United States consecutively. Meanwhile, another Michael album, The Essential, has had the same situation in the United Kingdom.

Over the past week, Number Ones sold 154,000 copies and is now spending its second consecutive week at the top of the comprehensive Billboard chart.

For comparison, let’s look at the sales figures for the United States this week:

The second album of LaToya, Here We Go Again, is at the top of the Billboard 200 best-selling albums chart, but with sales of 108,000 copies over the past week—far less than the King of Pop’s album. Sonny With a Chance, with 89,000 copies sold in one week, took second place. Battlefield, the album by Jordan Sparks—the winner of the 2007 BET contest—earned the number 7 spot with 48,000 copies sold over the past week. And the new album by Black Eyed Peas, The E.N.D, sold 52,000 copies over the past week and landed in sixth place.
