Illegal Release of Michael’s Death Certificate

Some time ago, Michael’s death certificate made its way to internet media. Last Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office revealed that sheriff’s officers were trying to question employees in that office who had sold and/or leaked the document. It has been reported that Michael’s death certificate was seen on one of the computers in the facility by six employees who had no legal responsibility for determining the cause of his death.

These employees were warned, and officials thought the matter didn’t require further attention. But over the next two weeks, the number of times this death certificate was viewed in the coroner’s computer system reached 300. Any employee who had a login password for this computer system could have seen the certificate. Meanwhile, according to the officer investigating the issue, only one person was authorized to have a copy of Mr. Jackson’s death certificate—and that person was the one responsible for reviewing his death case. However, employees made unauthorized copies of the certificate. The offending employees violated internal office regulations.
