Court Hearing in the Raymone Bain Lawsuit

Last Monday, Michael Jackson’s lawyers appeared in the Columbia District Court for the hearing of Raymone Bain’s $44 million lawsuit against their client. Bain had filed a complaint last month accusing Michael of failing to pay her her rights and dues. On that day, the judge scheduled a hearing for Thursday, June 18.

At the Thursday court session, Michael Jackson’s lawyers claimed that their client had received no complaint from Mrs. Bain.

Earlier this month, Raymone Bain had filed a statement saying that copies of her lawsuit had been delivered to one of Michael’s security officers at his home in Los Angeles, as well as to one of MJJ Production’s former representatives. But according to Michael’s lawyers, none of these lawsuits ever reached Michael, and Michael learned about the matter through friends who had heard the news of Raymone Bain’s lawsuit against him in the media.

In their brief, Michael’s lawyers wrote:

"Given the existence of valid and binding payments and agreements made between the parties, this lawsuit was a surprise to Michael Jackson.

Aside from the rumors and hints that may have been circulating before the lawsuit was filed, Michael Jackson couldn’t have imagined that, despite the legal payments and agreements carried out with Mrs. Raymone Bain, there would be a possibility of such a lawsuit being brought against him."

Michael’s lawyers have not only prepared a brief to refute Mrs. Bain’s allegations, but also to have her lawsuit dismissed.

Raymone Bain claimed that in exchange for arranging highly profitable deals for Michael Jackson, she was never paid anything. But Michael’s lawyers say that on December 27, 2007, Michael and Raymone Bain signed an agreement under which $488,820.05 was paid to Raymone Bain, and it stated that, according to the agreement’s terms, Raymone Bain had no further claims against Michael from the start of their collaboration up to December 27, 2007.
