The Hottest Tickets in the World
According to officials, the tickets for Michael’s concerts last Friday were the hottest tickets in the world and sold faster than any other tickets in the history of this city. These tickets sold at a rate of 11 per second, 657 per minute, and nearly 40,000 per hour. Fans from all over the world—across borders, from Japan, Belgium, and Dubai—queued outside the box office starting the night before ticket sales began.
On Friday, the executive manager of Ticketmaster in the UK said:
"We often talk about unprecedented demand, but this week we witnessed a phenomenon in the history of concert performances. Over the past three days, we truly saw an astonishing level of interest, excitement, and demand from fans around the world to get tickets for Michael’s concerts at O2. The success of the concert ticket sales led Michael and AEG Live to increase the number of these concerts to 50. Today, we saw that 250,000 fans rushed to the Ticketmaster website starting at 7:00 a.m. to get tickets. At the same time, long lines formed at the box office, and we sold tickets at an exceptional speed. Without a doubt, this is the most in-demand event we’ve ever experienced."
Randy Phillips, president and CEO of AEG Live, also said:
"This week has been the most amazing week of my life during my career in the entertainment and programming industry. Personally, I’ve been counting down days, minutes, and seconds for the first concert. I really can’t wait. Mike asked me how long he would be in Britain, and I told him probably long enough to get a British passport. Michael has now, more or less, prepared a list of dancers he wants. Michael is very busy right now."
