Thriller global dance breaks the record

The Thriller global dance event took place on October 25 to mark 25 years since the release of the Thriller video, and it easily broke last year’s record. The number of participants in the event—where everyone danced together in the look of people rising from the grave (imitating the video)—was reported as 4,179.

The event was held simultaneously in 72 cities across 10 countries: Australia, Canada, the UK, Germany, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Scotland, the United States, and Wales. It beat last year’s record, when 1,722 people took part, by a wide margin.

Among these 72 cities, Austin in the U.S. state of Texas ranked highest in terms of participants, with 880 people. Garni and Seattle came in second and third, with 334 and 195 participants respectively.

A similar dance event was also held yesterday at the Madame Tussauds museum in Times Square in New York City.

Earlier, Michael had said in an interview with People magazine: “I’ve always believed that Halloween and Thriller go together perfectly.”
