Thriller 25th Sells One Million Copies Worldwide

According to Global Track Chart, the official global list of best-sellers, this week Thriller 25th is in third place among the best-selling albums in the world. So far, the album has sold more than 1,024,000 copies worldwide, and therefore it has earned a Gold record certificate by surpassing the 300,000-copy sales figure.

This week in the United States, the album saw a 20% increase in sales, selling 49,181 copies. This helped it jump from ninth place to fourth place on the year’s best-selling albums chart in the United States.

While overall album sales were low this week, Michael’s album was one of the seven top albums on the fifty-album best-sellers chart that experienced an increase in sales.

Even Janet Jackson’s new album, titled “Discipline,” was not spared from a 71% drop in sales. Janet’s album sold 51,753 copies this week and is only slightly behind Michael’s album, which is the new edition of songs from 25 years ago.

Thriller 25th is currently at the top of the best pop catalog charts.

In late February, for two consecutive weeks, Michael Jackson and Jack Johnson had the best-selling albums in the United States. Johnson’s album, titled “Sleep Through the Static,” topped the Billboard 200 best-selling albums chart with sales of 105,000 copies. Thriller 25th was the second best-selling album, but because it is a newly prepared edition of a 25-year-old album, it did not qualify to compete on the Billboard chart.

Thriller 2th, with sales of 63,000 copies, performed better than Alicia Keys’ album “As I Am,” which sold 53,000 copies and was the second best-selling album on Billboard. With the same sales figure, it settled at number one on the pop catalog charts and is still the best-selling album on that chart.

Paul Grein, one of the music chart experts, said the following about the results Thriller 25th achieved on the album charts:

“I know Michael Jackson is a proud, highly competitive man who is never satisfied with being second. But he should remember that his album, which won the Grammy for Best Album 24 years ago, has had higher sales than this year’s newly prepared album champions in both of the past two weeks. The album ‘River’ by Herbie Hancock was fifth on last week’s chart, and this week it has fallen to number 16.”
