October 14, 2003 – Michael Named a Candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize
The director of the Norwegian Nobel Committee confirmed that Michael Jackson is one of this year’s nominees for one of the world’s most prestigious awards: the Nobel Peace Prize. Geir Lundestad said in his report today to Reuters that Michael Jackson, alongside Pope John Paul II, Luiz Inacio Lua da Silva, the president of Brazil, Iranian dissidents, Chinese dissidents, and Vaclav Havel, the former president of the European Union and former president of the Czech Republic, is among the 165 nominees for this year’s prize. Michael has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize due to his promotion of peace through his music—an example of which is clearly evident in songs such as Heal The World and Earth Song—and his nomination is worth $1.29 million.
