Michael’s Secret Videographer Sentenced to Eight Months in Prison
Arvel Jett Reeves, the head of security services for an aircraft, was sentenced to eight months in prison for illegally filming Michael and his former lawyer, Mark Geragos, on a private jet on November 20, 2003, during a flight from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara.
Reeves pleaded guilty in March. Following that, members of the jury filed a lawsuit against him and Jeffrey Borer, the owner of the jet rental company.
They were accused of installing special audio and video recording devices on the aircraft and attempting to sell the recorded footage to news agencies.
Reeves bought the devices and had them hidden on the plane before Michael and his former lawyer Mark Geragos boarded. Borer was also accused of renting the private jet equipped with recording devices to Michael and his lawyer, and contacting many news agencies in order to sell the recorded footage to them.
On that day, Michael had traveled to the area to surrender himself to the Santa Barbara police forces, who were waiting to arrest him on charges of sexually abusing a young boy at the airport.
Reeves and Borer tried to sell the recorded footage of Michael and his lawyer to news agencies at a good price by exploiting the controversy that the media had created around Michael’s allegations.
After 19 months, Michael’s trial ended with a verdict of not guilty.
According to the ruling of a Los Angeles court judge, Reeves must spend eight months in prison and another six months in a halfway house. Borer’s sentence will be issued on October 4.
