Michael’s Lawsuit Against a Music Club
Michael Jackson and Arkle are among the artists who have filed lawsuits against the Jay-Z 40/40 Club for playing their songs without permission. The plaintiffs filed their petition in the federal court in Manhattan.
The owners of the club are rapper Jay-Z and two other business partners, Desiree Gonzalez and Joan Perez, but this lawsuit does not mention Jay-Z by name—his real name is Shawn Carter.
Broadcast Music, representing Michael Jackson and other artists and music publishers, has requested payment of fines from this club for violating copyright rules.
Michael Jackson’s songs Billie Jean and Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough were among the songs that were played to the public in this club without a license.
