Variety.com has introduced Michael Jackson as one of the hundred outstanding faces of the 20th century. The site writes:
Despite all the rumors and baseless accusations—especially the trial of his criminal charges—Michael’s influential position in the world of pop music remains unshakable.
With Michael in the group, the Jacksons—Jackson Five—were able to raise sales of their songs and albums to more than one hundred million copies. His solo singles, sold at an astonishing rate over more than two decades, have cemented his position as one of the leading figures in pop music, turning his extraordinary wealth, fame, and unparalleled genius in music into an international superstar.
Michael Jackson is the first Black artist whose songs have been featured on MTV. Over the years, he has held the biggest concerts in music history. By creating the first short film as a video clip, he forever transformed the face of modern music. Through the creation of short musical films, he created new standards and opened a new path for other artists in the music world.
