Michael Heads to Japan to Receive the Legend of the Century Award

Michael Jackson, on his first official visit, is going to Japan to receive the Legend of the Century award.

On May 27, at the MTV Japan Music Video Awards ceremony, Michael receives the Legend of the Century award for his outstanding and record-breaking career. Michael Jackson is a pioneer, and he has created a fresh, unprecedented path in the making of video clips by releasing works such as Thriller, Bad, and Smooth Criminal.

With his songs still entering the charts of best-selling hits—and having sold more than 100,000,000 albums in Japan alone—during his trip he visits welfare centers in that country. He will also go to the city of Tokyo and meet members of the Asia business association.

Morris, the organizer of the trip, says: “We are happy that Mr. Jackson accepted our invitation to travel to Japan. Michael Jackson is a legend. What he has done as an artist with a worldwide reputation is unmatched. He loves Japan, and we love him. We are waiting to welcome him to Japan.”

Michael also said about this visit: “I’m eager to go to Japan because I have wonderful memories from traveling there. I’d like to thank MTV Japan for this award, and also Mr. Morris for arranging this trip. I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and greeting fans who, like fans everywhere across the world, have for many years shown their love and support for me and my family.”
